Gimme the Power

Molotov is a Mexican rock band formed in Mexico City in September 1995. Their lyrics feature a mixture of Spanish and English, rapped and sung by all members of the group. Molotov blends heavy bass lines with heavy guitar riffs. Many songs, such as "Gimme the Power" and "Frijolero", are politically inspired, addressing issues such as disenfranchisement within Mexico and immigration in the United States. The band's lyrics are risqué, playful, and frequently aggressive. They have won four Latin Grammy Awards.

One of the most famous songs of Molotov is “Gimme the Power.” This song is about the Mexican Government. How always been corrupt and has handled the people at will. Molotov is expressing in this song that if all the people get together they can make a difference. They can change the type of Government by throwing out all the corrupt politicians. This song was released in 1997. Eighteen years later the Mexican Government is working in the same way, nothing has change. Last year in September, 43 students disappeared without trace. Government said that they were victims of the organized crime; but what people really believed is that the government was in charge of disappeared them. Why? We still have no answers.

Warning: This song has strong and cuss words and could hurt your beliefs. Do not continue if your are sensitive to that kind of lenguage.

Gimme tha Power

The police might extorting you

(Money)

But they live from the money you pay

If they treat you like a delinquent

(A thief)

It’s not your fault

Give thanks to the regents

We have to stop this problem at its roots

And change the government of our country

All people in the bureaucracy

All the people who love crumbs

They are the reason I complain and I complain

Because this is where I live and I am not a fool anymore

Don’t you see the government position?

There are many people enriching themselves

All you who live in poverty

No one does nothing because no one cares

The people up top, hate you

But there are more people who want their heads to fall

If you give more power to power

The harder it will come after you

We used to be a world power

Now we are poor

Government handle us poorly

Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme all the power

So I can come around and bit your mother

Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme all the power

Because were not born where there is no food

We can’t ask so what will we do?

If we look at them as some idiots,

We are not

Long live Mexico

Let the Mexican power be felt

Let it be felt

Everyone as brothers

Because we are more,

We can get more done

Why are we following a bunch of assholes?

Who leads us where they please

Thought it’s our sweet that keeps them in power

It keeps them eating warm bread

That bread that is the bread of our people

Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme all the power

So I can come around and bit your mother

Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme all the power (4X)

The people united, will never be defeated

The Titos, the Huidos, will never be defeated
